Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from candidates preparing for Police Scotland recruitment.
Is the practice test really free?
Yes. Sign up with your email address and you get the whole of Practice Paper 1 (49 questions, timed at 60 minutes), with your score and a worked explanation for every question, plus free topic exercises and the first 3 sections of the Recruitment Guide. No credit card needed.
What is the pass mark for the Police Scotland PSET?
Police Scotland does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The PSET is a single 49-question, 60-minute examination paper covering three core elements โ Language, Numbers (Numeracy), and Information Handling โ and you must pass all three elements in the same sitting to pass overall. According to figures released under Freedom of Information, the overall PSET pass rate was 94% in 2024/25 (up from 87% in 2023/24 and 78% in 2022/23).
Does Police Scotland release official PSET past papers PDF?
No. Police Scotland does not release live exam papers from previous sittings, as the question bank is maintained internally by Police Scotland Business Psychologists. Instead, Police Scotland publishes a short official PDF sample paper (15 example questions with answers, dated July 2025) on its recruitment pages to illustrate the question formats, and we recommend reviewing that sample alongside our 10 full 49-question mock papers.
Is this the official Police Scotland test?
No. Our papers are PSET-style practice papers covering the three areas Police Scotland says the PSET assesses: language, numeracy and information handling. They are not official Police Scotland material. Join The Cops is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Police Scotland.
